About the CSV to JSON
CSV to JSON converts spreadsheet-style data into JSON, the format used by most web APIs and JavaScript applications. The first row of your CSV is treated as the header, and every following row becomes an object whose keys are the header names.
This is a basic converter. It splits on commas and does not handle quoted fields that contain commas or line breaks, so a value like "Smith, John" will be split into two columns. Clean such data first, or use a spreadsheet program to export with a different separator.
How to use it
- Paste your CSV into CSV input, with column names on the first line.
- Press Convert.
- Review the JSON output and press Copy JSON.
Example
Input: name, age then Ana,31 becomes [{"name":"Ana","age":"31"}]. Values are kept as text, so convert numbers in your own code if needed.
Check that every row has the same number of columns as the header.
Use the JSON Formatter afterwards to validate or minify the result.
Real-world examples
Feeding a web app. Export a product list from a spreadsheet and convert it to the JSON array a front-end expects.
Test data. Turn a few rows of sample customers into JSON for an API test.
Config from a sheet. Keep settings in a spreadsheet and convert them when they change.
Common mistakes
Commas inside values (for example Smith, John) split into two columns because this converter does not parse quotes. Missing header rows make the first data row become the keys. Extra blank lines at the end can create empty objects, so trim them. All values come out as text, so numbers and true/false need converting in your own code.
How it works
The first line is split on commas into keys. Every following line is split the same way and zipped with those keys into an object. The array of objects is then written with JSON.stringify and indented for reading. Pair it with the JSON Formatter to validate the result.
