About the PDF Splitter

The PDF Splitter extracts the pages you choose from a PDF and saves them as a new file. Use it to send only the relevant pages of a long contract, pull one chapter from an e-book you own, or drop a blank page from a scan.

You describe the pages with a simple list: single pages separated by commas, and ranges joined with a hyphen. The new PDF contains the pages in the order you list them. Processing happens locally in your browser with the pdf-lib library.

How to use it

  1. Click Choose PDF and select your file.
  2. In Pages to extract, type the pages, for example 1,3,5-7 for pages 1, 3, 5, 6 and 7.
  3. Press Extract and download to save the new PDF.

Page-list examples

1-3 keeps the first three pages. 2,4,6 keeps only the even pages up to six. 5- style open ranges are not supported, so write the last page number explicitly.

Page numbers refer to the position in the file (first page is 1), not to any printed page numbers on the paper.

To split a document into several files, run the tool once for each group of pages.

Real-world examples

Sending one signed page. A 40-page contract needs only the signature page back: enter 40 and share a one-page PDF.

Removing a cover or blank page. To drop page 1 of a 12-page file, enter 2-12.

Splitting a report into chapters. Run 1-8, then 9-20, then 21-30 to get three files.

Odd pages only. For a double-sided scan where you want just the fronts, list 1,3,5,7 and so on.

Common mistakes

Writing a page number higher than the document length gives an error. Using spaces or semicolons instead of commas can also confuse the parser, so stick to digits, commas and hyphens. Printed page numbers often differ from the file's own numbering when a document has a cover or contents section.

How it works

The page list is parsed into zero-based indexes. The tool then creates a new document and copies exactly those pages from your original with pdf-lib. Your original is never modified, because the new file is built separately in memory.

Frequently asked questions

Does the original file change?

No. Your original stays untouched; you receive a new PDF.

Why does it say a page is out of range?

The number is larger than the page count of the file. Check how many pages the PDF has and try again.

Can I reorder pages?

Yes. Pages are written in the order you list them, so 3,1,2 puts page 3 first.
