About the Password Generator
The Password Generator creates random passwords that are hard to guess. Pick a length from 8 to 64 characters and decide which groups to include: uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers and symbols.
Randomness comes from your browser's cryptographic generator (crypto.getRandomValues), not from a predictable function. The password is created on your device and never sent to HandyHex. Look-alike characters such as 0, O, 1, l and I are left out so passwords are easier to read.
How to use it
- Set the Length.
- Tick the character groups to include.
- Press Generate, then Copy.
Staying safe
Use a different password for every account, and store them in a password manager.
Longer is stronger; 16 characters or more is a good target.
Turn on two-factor authentication wherever it is offered.
Do not share a generated password in chats or email.
Real-world examples
New account. Generate 20 characters, copy and save it in a password manager.
Wi-Fi or shared device. Use a shorter 12 to 16 character password without symbols if typing is awkward.
API keys or test data. Produce a long random string.
Common mistakes
Using the same password on many sites. Sending passwords in chat or email. Making a 'strong' password out of personal info like birthdays. Forgetting to save the password before closing the page; nothing is stored for you.
How it works
Random 32-bit numbers come from crypto.getRandomValues. To avoid a small bias that would favour some characters, any number above the largest even multiple of the character-set size is discarded and redrawn. The kept numbers pick characters from the groups you chose. Look-alike characters are removed from the set up front.
