About the Slug Generator
The Slug Generator converts a title or phrase into a URL-friendly slug such as my-first-blog-post. Clean slugs make web addresses readable and are easier for people and search engines to understand.
The tool lowercases the text, strips accents (café becomes cafe), replaces spaces and symbols with single hyphens, and trims hyphens from both ends. Characters outside the basic Latin alphabet and digits are removed.
How to use it
- Type or paste your title in Text.
- The slug appears instantly.
- Press Copy slug.
Good slug habits
Keep slugs short and descriptive, ideally three to six words.
Avoid changing a live page's slug, because the old address stops working unless you add a redirect.
Non-Latin scripts will be dropped by this tool, so write the slug in English letters for those pages.
Real-world examples
Blog posts. 'How to Save Money in 2026!' becomes how-to-save-money-in-2026.
Product pages. 'Café Table (Oak)' becomes cafe-table-oak.
File names. A safe, readable name for uploads and downloads.
Common mistakes
Putting dates and long sentences in slugs, which make addresses clumsy and outdated. Changing a slug after publishing without a redirect breaks links. Using non-Latin letters: this tool removes them, so write the slug in plain English words for those pages.
How it works
Text is Unicode-normalised so accented letters split into a base letter and a mark; the marks are removed. Everything is lowercased, any run of characters other than a to z and 0 to 9 becomes a single hyphen, and hyphens at the start and end are trimmed.
Frequently asked questions
Why were some letters removed?
Only a to z and 0 to 9 are kept.
Should I use underscores?
Hyphens are the usual convention.
Is it private?
Yes.
